today's dc is a response from
Shane Mitchell. -K
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It
is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul
and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost
thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from
God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the
one to whom we are accountable.
HEBREWS 4:12-13 NLT
Great thoughts indeed over the Word. I
still find it challenging to open, read, and find meaning.
Some days, the Word just becomes living right before my eyes, and
then at other times, it may take a while for the living Word to
become life-giving to me. Another thought I was pondering
while reading this was why we are so afraid of getting the Word
wrong. I think the enemy has somehow given us the notion that
we can only interpret Scripture based on getting it right.
Well, I believe that not trying is way worse than not getting it
right. Scripture is infallible, yes, but human interpretation
is very fallible indeed. What may appear as right to one may
be considered wrong to another--but is it really wrong if two
unique minds find a different meaning to their own personal lives
from one Scripture? The trick is to ensure that what we say,
how we interpret, and how we read Scripture is according to what
God has already clearly stated in it (plain meaning), through other
Scripture (The Word is the best commentary on itself), and through
godly men and women called to proclaim it. We must also
ensure that we do not use the Word as our personal sword to prove
that we are right, to bring judgment against believers and
unbelievers, and to cut through a person and shame them with
truth. It is our duty to deliver the truth with love and no
condemnation, not through judgmental actions and
condemnation. We must always ensure that the Sword of the
Spirit is utilized by the Spirit, not the spirit of man. It
is time that we share the Word openly with other men because one of
us might have the truth stored up in our bones awaiting the perfect
release that may come through an observation, and recollection, or
possibly even a voice inflection. God has many avenues in
which He can move to ensure that we as men have the truth always
before us--provided that we are listening to Him, being honest with
Him, and being honest with one another. We can fool each
other, but we can certainly not fool God
because He is not mocked.
