See to it, brothers, that none of you has a
sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But
encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that
none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come
to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we
had at first.
HEBREWS 3:13
& 14 NIV
This certainly reads like a call
to action, a command to leave no man behind.
If you have given your heart to
Christ I challenge you to scan back to that time and identify those
men that you have left behind (even unintentionally). I think if we
truthfully analyze the time that has elapsed between when we first
accepted Him until now it will become crystal clear that we have
not always encouraged all of those around us.
This may seem like a pointless
exercise but it is important to know the missed potential/the ways
we have not been obedient to Him. Not so we can then beat ourselves
up about how we do not measure up. The point is the opposite
really. Identifying who you have left behind gives you a place to
start.
This scripture calls us to not
have an unbelieving heart but also to encourage our
brothers to not turn away from the living God as well. We are
called to encourage one another. Are you encouraging others? Are
you being obedient?
