Dear friends, be quick to listen,
slow to speak, and slow to get angry, Your anger can never make
things right in God's sight.
JAMES 1:19-20 NLT
Ever have one of those days when
you respond to everyone and every situation like you are the
mousetrap and they are the mouse? Snapping at and snapping shut at
any slight movement or response? Most professionals who make a
living studying or working closely with people and their emotions
will tell you that anger in and of itself is not always just anger.
It has usually sprouted from another emotion, from intense sadness
or worry or fear. The release of anger usually is accompanied by
other feelings afterwards as well.
On the mousetrap days I am usually
spending a lot of time, after the fact, apologizing to those
that I love. Apologizing for my behavior. It often takes a rebuke
or a reminder from loved ones to loosen the trap and give away the
cheese without enslaving the "mouse".
As the scripture suggests these
are days for slow-motion, a clear head and time at God's feet
confessing and seeking guidance, comfort and wisdom.
