SIX ATTITUDES THAT DEFUSE CONFLICT
- I Peter 3:8-11

1. SYMPATHY - vs. 8:  "Be sympathetic..."

"...be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."  - James 1:19 (NIV)
"We must bear the `burden' of being considerate of the doubts and fears of others..." - Romans 15:2 (LB)

2. LOYALTY - vs. 8: "...Have brotherly love..."

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love" - Romans 12:10 (NIV)

"If you love someone, you'll be loyal to him no matter what the cost..." - I Corinthians 13:7 (LB)

Accept one another just as Christ accepted you." - Romans 15:7 (NIV)

3.  GENEROSITY/COMPASSION - vs. 8: "...Be compassionate..."

"Clothe yourselves with compassion ..." - Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

"(Speak) what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." - Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

"We should love people not only with words and talk, but by our actions and true caring."       - I John 3:18 (NCV)

4.  HUMILITY - vs. 8:  "...Be humble..."

"Pride only leads to arguments" - Proverbs 13:10 (NIV)

"Anyone who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful.   But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance."   - Proverbs 28:13 (LB)

5. MERCY - vs. 9

"Never pay back one wrong with another, or pay an angry word with another one; instead, pay back with a blessing...So that you inherit a blessing yourself."  - 1 Peter 3:9 (JB)

"Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others."  - Colossians 3:13 (LB)

"Love keeps no record of wrongs."  - I Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)

6. MATURITY - vs. 10

"If you want a happy, good life, keep control of your tongue, and guard your lips from telling lies...live in peace."  - 1 Peter 3:10 (LB)

"Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword, but wisely spoken words can heal." - Proverbs 12:18 (GN)
