"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary,
the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to
devour." 1 Peter 5:8
For faith to be tested it has to come under some sort of
strain, it has to be stretched, and at this point it is most spread
out. There is tremendous potential for growth in these times where
endurance leads to strength, but these times are also the times
when the adversary most desires to destroy and undo the work of
God. When was Christ tempted? At the times where His faith was most
stretched He held to the will of the Father and was stronger for it
(and we know these times to be where the most strength came from
it, as his ministry began after the 40 days of fasting and then
being tempted; and when he came out of the garden to be the
ultimate sacrifice for our lives and then to also show the power of
God in the resurrection).
Where there is a test, a point of possible exhaustion, we have much
sweat and labored breathing in our spirit under the strain. The
lion looks for the time when the prey will be easiest to catch, and
also for which prey is most likely to be caught. These moments are
not lost on the enemy, I pray they aren't lost on us. May we run
immediately to the arms of the Father who has all strength for our
times of weakness!
